So, What is Disneyland?

It all started with a mouse and a dream.

In 1928 Walt Disney was an animator that had just created everyone’s favourite mouse in his first ever cartoon to use sound, Steamboat willie. Walt’s imagination couldn’t be contained so he kept creating. Walt had a dream the create a place where not only children could have fun but also adults and he did just that. Disneyland first opened on 17 July 1955 in Anaheim California on 75 acres of an old orange farm. Its safe to say that he did an amazing job with Disneyland averaging around 51,000 visitors a day and expanding to 5 different parks spreading from Paris to Japan. When the park opened it was a bit of a disaster because people created counterfeit tickets which meant that more people showed up than expected. It was almost classed as a disaster but they quickly turned around the negative experience by turning the park into what it is today. With rides like Space Mountain, Indiana Jones and the Magical Sleep Beauties castle it’s a much loved holiday for all.

The very moment that you step through the gates you are transported into a different world, with every detail hand crafted by Imaginers that are personally responsible for creating a magical movie for you. It is a bit of a hidden secret that may not be known but in different areas with the park there are different vents called Smellitizers. They are specifically designed to release a smell to make each land, store and attraction smell a different way. Scent is one of the strongest ways that memories are formed, and Disney know this, so they are actively trying to capture their audiences’ minds with smell.

Of course, the success of Disneyland was immediate and over in Florida, Disney World was also leading the way in theme park immersion. Both of these factors led to a second park being built directly across from Disneyland. Disney California Adventure first opened in 2001 and had faster rides with even more places to explore. Today California Adventure features lands based on Pixar, Marvel and Old Hollywood movies.

Disneyland has this magical ability to capture the magic from their movies and bring it to life, they have captured the hearts of millions of visitors by each day by making dreams come true for each and every person that steps through the gates.

I really hope that one day you get to go one day and experience the magic!
